The Emmy Awards, television’s biggest night,  kicked off awards season last night marking months of great celebrity style to come.

When we weren’t busy obsessing , we took note of a few things on this year’s carpet: a notable showing of yellow gowns, a few pant/dress combos, some serious sparkle and of course, so much glamour.

Ellie Kemper looked unbreakable in a Jenny Packham gown and chic bob, Kerry Washington once again proved she’s the queen of maternity style and Sarah Paulson, well, we’ll let you bask in that Prada glory for yourself.

Take a look at our picks for best-dressed of the night below

Sarah Paulson in Prada

When Sarah Paulson hit the red carpet in this emerald Prada number, your jaw dropped. It’s okay — ours did, too. The blunt slit, the statement shoulders, Paulson’s stoic presence..  sleek hair which is so on trend …what’s not to like?

Sophie Turner in Valentino

Commenting on Sophie Turner’s sheer Valentino number,  “That is one of those runway dresses everyone says will be lined on real life. Guess not.” Though that may be true, we think this black lace dress is one of the most on trend red carpet pieces we’ve seen in a long time. A beauty look we think Sansa Stark would love: burgundy eyeshadow (which makes Turner’s eyes look greener) and a loose, wavy braid. Red hair or blonde hair—it doesn’t matter. We love The Queen In The North both ways.

Kerry Washington in Brandon Maxwell

Tonight may be Kerry Washington’s night, seeing as she’s nominated for two Emmys, but we’ve got to give the designer of her incredible maternity look, Brandon Maxwell, several pats on the back for this one. It’s not often that a hairstyle renders us speechless. But when Kerry Washington stepped on the red carpet wearing these big, bouncy curls— we were stunned. The only thing capable of outshining this style is her adorable baby bump.

Sarah Hyland in Monique Lhullier

We’ll never say no to pants on the red carpet, and this Monique Lhuillier ensemble on Sarah Hyland had jaws dropping along  with her flawless make up and simple low pony looped through  looked effortless. Big hit

Priyanka Chopra in Jason Wu

Another red on the red carpet,  Priyanka Chopra had a princess moment in Jason Wu . A matte red lipstick not only makes a bold statement, but it’s a smart choice for a long, eventful night. Flawless sleek pony gives this whole look a timeless feel.  We  are completely obsessed.

Nina Garcia in Valentino

It should come as no surprise that Nina Garcia, being the creative director of Marie Claire, slayed the red carpet. In a long-sleeve Valentino gown, the Project Runway judge brought some much-needed razzmatazz to the evening.  Love the whole boho feel about this look, with soft relaxed hair and natural make up she looked fierce.

Michelle Dockery in Oscar de la Renta

This black-and-white Oscar de la Renta gown on Michelle Dockery makes the actress look like the perfect topper to a wedding cake. And the clever belt choice was the perfect way to add shape amidst so many layers. It’s been a moment since we last saw a raspberry lip on the red carpet, but something about it  feels so fresh. We especially love how Dockery chose to blend a similar shade on her lids to tie the look together. Together will smooth vintage wave it’s very Hollywood and we love it, Then again, we expect nothing less from the Downton Abbystar.
